Yeah who knows what he was thinking... he was so young when he started work on Bitcoin in 2003. It might have been as simple as "holy cow I think we can turn this Hash Cash system into a currency". Perhaps only later much further into the development did it dawn on him just how profound his discovery/invention was. Or perhaps he knew, even as such a young man, that he was working on something world changing.
