You can check the data sources for yourself and check the way the study was conducted to determine if it meets your criteria for a quality experiment. But that's not the point. The point is that people don't bother looking for the data and make blanket feel-good statements. I'm fine with that, but just know that I can check it ;) I may not say anything either. Oh, the wonder of tools we have at our disposal.

I take umbrage, not at the notion that someone might verify this or that data, it would be to everyones benefit if they did, but rather that the process of fact checking becoming outsourced and centralised in the hands of would be truth-tsars, and the common man becomes barred from the process outright.
Surely no one is advocating for a centralised fact checking source, but you can have your own multitude of sources/people/organisation that you trust to be truthful and fact check correctly
