I wouldn't be surprised if this was still better than living somewhere with terrible food, more crime and deaths than you can navigate each day and no sense of opportunity (this is the "dream").
Definitely in some countries like in Mexico, El Salvador etc. there is a risk to be killed by gangs. But not everywhere
