I told my 14 year old that she has 3 options to earn money. Since we live in the country, we don’t want to drive her in town to work. This is in regards to summer work and can be 10-20 hours a week. She can…

1. Work for me (I own my own business)

2. Work at a flower farm a mile down the road

3. Start her own business

What are your thoughts?

Online videos around farming have a huge following. Could do a YouTube channel.

She loves art and crafts and she’s good at it. I’m encouraging her to start a YouTube channel and/or email newsletter around that.

Does the flower farm use poisons? If not I would say the flower farm and she should start a business as well

To be honest, I’m not sure.

1. Work for you, and figure out how to lower your tax burden with it.

Sell stuff online - Etsy, I propagate plants, 3d print stuff. Would be great for a kid.

Ideally she'd do some combination of all three.

Talk to the flower farm folks and see if there's something she can do as a "subcontractor" for them. Maybe planting seeds in starter trays or something, then selling the seedlings to them wholesale. Depends on how they run their operation, I guess. But that way she'd have her own business that she has to learn to manage instead of just being an employee. Getting paid by the piece rather than the hour teaches you a lot about how to work efficiently...

Great idea
