there was several CMEs last year but what wasl more important was stuff like aurora being visible so close to the equator compared to the energy of the eruption... even Carrington did not come close to making the sky glow in New Caledonia
we come around to the side of the sun soon that is lit up by the galactic center in march-april again soon and it's gonna be lit, second year of solar max

Some people suggest the Carrington event potentially reached as far south as Columbia. The magnetosphere is far weaker now though, so there certainly going to be interesting with all these potential civilization ending light shows coming !
