Are hashtags really useful? #asknostr

Why not use communities instead of cluttering the post text with hashtags?

Personally, I've found reddit style communities more useful for discovery and niche topic discussion than randomly searching for hashtags on twitter or even nostr.

Nostr is one big community.. closing off to communities is like a step back to the old ways.. because I can't join ever community because I'm sure I'll get kicked out from a few haha soooo we use hashtags 😅 tgis isn't reddit or bluesky or Twitter THIS IS #NOSTR 😅

Communities are not closed. There are no protected names, everyone can start their own community with whatever name they want and it's up to them to build reputation.

Every note on a community is of kind 1 and is shown as a regular note on every client. It can be referenced, commented, cross-posted, etc by anyone.

Have you tried using nostr communities before spreading FUD?
