I'm late to my own party, and why? Because I was learning about dehydrated devices and how #Matrix messages can't be decrypted if all of your devices were signed out at the time the message was sent. #e2ee

I recently convinced some normal people to use Matrix and so now I need to support them and make sure I figure out how to work around weird issues like this. Prior to this, I was only inviting geeks onto Matrix (which is nearly everyone I know, but a biased set of people nonetheless).

But fear not, I got that all sorted out now and #Signet #Saturday can begin. 🎊

Submitted an updated version of the #Signet add-on for Firefox. I don't use the add-on myself, but a user reported that it didn't work on all sites that had a login on one page and a password on the next, so I fixed that.

I even got it to handle when there was a username field and then that field went away and was replaced with a password prompt without reloading the page.

Matrix with normal people is a nightmare because Matrix with technical users is a nightmare

If there's one thing that Matrix does well, it's teaching you the value of simplicity the hard way

I should note that I say this as a (personal) homeserver administrator and someone who has been using Matrix for several years. I've had a lot of fun on the platform, but its encryption scheme is just atrocious from a usability POV

I thought the headaches were in the past now that Element R is out. And for to most part, they are, but every once in a while something like this bites me.

It sounds like they have a fix for this, but they're improving the UX before rolling it out.
