Are you some sort of electrician? From bits you've written here and there I have that idea. It's a topic I've been meaning to revisit since learning a tiny bit back in school.

Real talk, ignore books and get your hands dirty.

I recommend #hamradio for learning electronics. The tech license will give you just enough background knowledge to know when to be careful and do the math with terminology to look up the right equations. It will also give you a practical goal like "what power supply, battery, and wire gauge for this equipment"

From there the deeper you go the more you'll learn.

If you've never been zapped or accidentally lit something on fire I don't trust you know anything about electricity.

Funny, ham radio is on my todo hobby list. Perhaps it is finally time... there is a meetup of ham people every so often where I live. Was thinking of going sometime. Thanks! Maybe I'll see you on the airwaves in a few months...

Meetups have wildly different quality depending since they are all independently run.

If it is all club politics don't let that discourage you. Plenty of quality info on the internet.

Also remember the entire point of the hobby is talking to strangers anywhere in the world from your basement.

Sad we need that disclaimer but it is just a fact that many clubs are run by retired severely autistic boomers who never had any support for their autism or social skills development.

Yeah, not expecting much. They do have access to a couple antennae or stations, so wanted to at least gather that info. Likely I can find one person I jive with. We shall see, maybe

Depending on the size of population in your area you will likely be able to find more than 1 get together too.

Figure out who is still fascinated by the science and isn't a snob. They'd be able to point you to quality local resources.
