I have found one thing git annex is really good for and that's MOVING data. Moving data between storage sucks due to the verification steps involved before you can safely delete it from the source, then you have to juggle all that in your head to make sure you're not deleting the wrong things. Annex automates all that and verifies that it didn't get corrupted before dropping it from your computer.

I've got one application where I'm using it now daily, and I'd like to use it for stuff like my windows downloads folder, which is just an ever-growing tumor, but annex just does not fucking work on windows.
