What is one signal that one might observe in a societal collapse?

People have been sniffing glue, paint, petrol etc for a very long time and society hasn't collapsed. Society doesn't generally benefit from the contributions of the sort of people who do this kind of thing.
nitrous oxide isn't nearly as dangerous as glue, paint, or petrol
Which makes it even less likely that this would herald civilisational collapse.
I always liked the smell of gas and Elmer’s glue. If it was safe to huff I probably would.
Just having a bit of fun with this article. Imagine your in the early 1900’s and time traveling to present day and reading this article 😂. BTW I have genuine hope for the future.
