Fees have spiked and this is the first time I've had a transaction just waiting in the mempool. I bumped the fee, but sats/vb is still going up.
What happens if a transaction is purged? Do I lose those sats?

No sats are never lost in a tx. The transaction will just not happen unless you rebroadcast it later or some nodes with bigger mempool rebroadcast it. You can bump the fee with CPFP or RBF or just wait some days/weeks/months
