Something that can be experienced through our senses that triggers an emotive response.

Off the cuff.

That makes generated images art id they elicit emotional response ?

I suppose it does, according to that definition.

Ai art is art, it's just not necessarily human art.

Should we call it non-human art?

Generative or Generated Art. If you come up with the idea, is it your art? Or is it not. I don't know.

If Ai art isn't art, wouldn't that mean that all digital art isn't art? Both scenarios someone comes up with an idea and brings it to life.

Both are tools

Does effort need to be a part of the definition? How much effort? If I pain a weird face with my finger on some paper and it triggers a strong emotional response in someone- is that art ? Am I an artist?

I would say so yes, same with those artists who splat random paint on a canvas and then sell for $1M

If a kid does that without much thought - are they an artist if I buy their “art”?

Yeah, this is the official definition:

the expression or application of human creative skill and imagination, typically in a visual form such as painting or sculpture, producing works to be appreciated primarily for their beauty or emotional power.

Then kids can be considered artists. They are imaginative, can produce subjectively beautiful things which may mean a lot emotionally to their parents

I would say there's a difference between an artist and professional artist, anyone can make art, even if it sucks. I would say creating art is anything where you bring an idea to life in a visual way.

What makes someone a professional artist? Are splats on canvas professional if that art sells for millions?

art is as varied as the eyes/brains imaginations

A child’s finger painting may make you feel proud - is this art?

Is being proud an intense feeling?

Might be? You may have some mixed emotional response to it

If I look at Rembrandt and don’t feel anything, is that not art then?

It’s still art, because it does for other people and we can generally agree that even though it’s not our cup of tea, we can see that it could be for others.

I know I’m contradicting myself, not making any sense, and not really answering but such is a philosophical debate about a term such as “art”. 😂
