Most scientists around the world have dropped the term BC (Before Christ) and started using BCE (Before the Common Era) in order to secularize it.

Very hypocritical imo, as they still use the Gregorian calendar, which was created by the Catholic Church.

You get something from a culture and try to erase their all symbols from it. Very scumbag behaviour.

Seems kinda weird to change it

I like to ask: so, what historical event was so signifant that it categorized all of history into *before* it and *after* it...?

Agreed. History is constantly being bleached and sterilized. It is what it is. If it happened to be Buddha (BB and AB) or anyone else I wouldn’t care or be offended.

Agree.

It was technically an improvement upon Julian calendar, not full creation! 🐶🐾🫡

“The Gregorian calendar is the calendar used in most parts of the world.[1][a] It was introduced on February 24 with a papal bull, and went into effect in October 1582 by Pope Gregory XIII as a modification of, and replacement for, the Julian calendar. The principal change was to space leap years differently so as to make the average calendar year 365.2425 days long, more closely approximating the 365.2422-day 'tropical' or 'solar' year that is determined by the Earth's revolution around the Sun.”

When someone wants to use BCE and CE, ask them "when were you born?" Then say "Let's use that as the new calendar. I'll call it BAE and AE." Then tell them A stands for asshole.

I'm going to call bullshit on this one. I work on academia, surrounded by scientists most of time, most of my days. Haven't heard anyone doing this. I personally wouldn't mind since basing the calendar on fantastic events seems kind of dumb. Yet, never ever have I seen anyone doing it.

It's not me saying this; many scientists, several reputable scientific institutions, and even some national libraries have cited this as one of the main reasons. It's just one Google search away. Ask Bard!

I don't need to ask anyone, I've been around scientists my whole adult life and I still am. I regularly go to conferences and talk with other scientists on different countries. This is simply not true.

And besides that, I wouldn't trust some AI regurgitater that can make up "facts" to proof their point 🤔

I saw it constantly in the humanities, both undergrad & grad.

it is even more evident when they use CE (Common Era) instead of AD (Anno Domini)

history stack exchange, paradox games forums, full of people using BCE-CE and even (some radicals) complaining/censoring/editing out BC/AD
