I would say that agency and understanding are different things. There is a framing of AI "replacing" humans. It might come from the term "artificial", and it can help to use the term "synthetic". Synthetic intelligence will never be "human", but it will still dramatically change society. It is capable of deep understanding, which is the ability to accurately model reality
