Ouch

Looks like what we call a blue bottle.

They sting & they itch but they don't kill ya.

Surf instructor said it was a man o war which are abundant here. Fortunately for me it was small and dead. I can imagine getting stung by a live adult. My whole leg up to my groin is red and swollen.

Yeah looks like the same thing. From Wikipedia:

The Portuguese man o' war (Physalia physalis), also known as the man-of-war,[6] is a marine hydrozoan found in the Atlantic Ocean and the Indian Ocean.

It is considered to be the same species as the Pacific man o' war or bluebottle, which is found mainly in the Pacific Ocean.[7] The Portuguese man o' war is the only species in the genus Physalia, which in turn is the only genus in the family Physaliidae.[8]

Those are no fun! Good luck!

Did you pee on it?

No they used vinegar, hot water immersion and some kind of venom inhibiting cream.

>venom inhibiting cream

Should we tell her? 😬

Copper gluconate is the active ingredient. You’re correct that it doesn’t inhibit venom as I said, but it does prevent venom discharge from the tentacles and venom induced hemolysis in studies.

All I know is it gave me rapid relief from the intense pain.

Try white vinegar in warm water for the Man-o-war. Was told by someone in Kauai last time we were here and my daughter felt the m-o-w. Not fun and leaves a mark for quite a while. Urine does nothing for this sting.

😬
