I think for nostr to get any significant adoption, relay management will have to be automated. I just can’t imagine millions of people tinkering with relays…
Discussion
Yes, by default nobody wants to deal with that.
The downside of automation being probably more centralization, though with the option of tinkering for those who need it.
And the centralization will require financing, so there will be either ads on some relays or subscriptions.
clearly a twitter style maxi, cause irc, discord, slack and reddit people are well versed with modifying their 'relay' feeds heh.
not just a twitter maxi but a "trust us bros to run your stuff" maxi
Nostrmo is pretty good at that
I haven’t looked in a while. What does it do?
Well I haven’t had to touch any relays and it just works. Way better than the old Damus experience I had when I was here last
I see. Yeah this this the type of experience I’m referring to. User doesn’t have to think about relays and it just works, their data is always found, automatically backed up by clients
Same as channel management on Lightning. Most users cannot be expected to run a reliable routing node, the same as most nostr users won't be able to run and maintain their own relay. Wherever they sign up should come with default relays, which can then be swapped out afterwards if the user wants to do that.
Absolutely
Thats right! If there isn't a simple one click setup & login to a nice ui to manage your relay then yeah people won't.
At least for onboarding, sure.
