Pruning Terms:

-trunk : main middle, vertical section of the tree

-leader branches : those coming directly from the trunk

-bud: has leaf or flower potential. There are terminal buds, auxiliary buds, flower buds, and latent buds.

-node: shows promise of growth/ popping to branch

-codominance: two leader branches where in one, bark becomes included and will eventually cause a split.

-drop crotch: a branch coming out of a branch. To prune, cut down to the crotch.

-branch collar: prune above and outside of the collar.

-woundwood: develops when properly pruned outside of the collar.

-proper cut: is at a 45 degree angle, far enough above node to allow for new growth, and above the line of the bark collar of the tree.
