Do you still watch/listen but just not paying? Or are you swearing off films & music on a moral basis?

i weened myself away from it over the years. at first, i downloaded everything from free streaming to the piratebays of the world.

nowadays, none of the new films or music entertainment me at all. now i read books and actually pay for them.

Glad you found what works for you. Personally I find good and bad in all of it.

Is there really no music that works for you? There’s so much, and the entertainment industry has never been less involved in its creation and distribution than today.

there’s good music and films out there, i know it. i still listen to music i’ve enjoyed over the years thought not much of it is new or from the last decade. my distaste also has a lot to do with saturation. there’s so much out there that it becomes overwhelming which also has led me to other better things to do with my time. it might also be that i am evolving to be very difficult to entertain.

I know what you mean. The shit filter is overloaded. It’s like Robin Williams in Moscow on the Hudson, where he goes shopping for coffee and can’t process that there are countless brands of coffee.

I think this is why we see more boutique music and video stores popping up. It’s about the curation by trusted people you can see and talk to in real life. I think art is one of those things best experienced with others and little shops like that help. It’s good to see community-based backlash against the internet shit fountain.

the one stop shop for everything isn’t quite working. what did it for me was wasting an hour weeding through the shit on netflix. that was all it took.

i discover new music from the audiophiles in my life and suggested films from people i trust who know my taste. i still don’t pay for any of it. same way with books. the library is my friend. i do buy the books that i will likely reread to support the authors esp if it’s a good series.

are these the “mom and pop” music and video stores you speak of in america?

Yep in LA specifically though I’ve seen it elsewhere. I think people are just getting tired of being fed stuff by internet randos and looking to get back to real interactions.

As a musician I kinda hope you are paying for the music you like :)

i am more inclined to pay for good music or show than films. so ya, i can be convinced. lol
