Power is back. Praise the electron!

These 90 minutes were tense NGL. Not used to this 😅 #electricity #power #grid #germany

That's pretty normal in the US. I'm surprised that would happen over there

First time in my entire life that power went off longer than 3 minutes. And three minutes happens like once every 3-4 years.

This is why I got worried 😄

Some places here it happens every week. Some people have generators in their garage because of it. Which I think is a very good idea..

Yeah I was thinking again about UPSes too 😄 seeing my lightning node shutting down like *snap* didn't feel good. If it doesn't recover money is lost.

And then my NAS. I am bored after 10 seconds when this goes down 😅

UPSes?

Surely lightning can handle some down time

Isn't that what it's called? Uninterruptible power supply. Like a backup battery that can run stuff for a bit and then shut it down in a coordinated way. That's at least what I would hope

Oh yeah, that's for a computer or maybe a room. The generators people put in their garages or crawl space are usually gasoline powered and run the whole house. I think its cheaper than putting in a wall of batteries, but idk

Noo, you can get consumer products for around 100-200 bucks.

Something like this (no buying advice)

https://www.amazon.de/dp/B0056PDK7E/

Yeah, those go under the desk... Right? I don't think that'll power a house for long.

Well I guess the computer is the only thing that **_really_** matters

Yes, these devices are small and just meant to keep a computer up for maybe 10 minutes. Could be longer with a raspberry pi. They can send a shutdown signal though, so they can at least properly shut down computers before they run out of juice.

it can but sometimes the other side can close out if it's off for too long... definitely i'd be using a UPS to run one, and a backup network connection as well

From the outside looking in it's truly shocking that your govt shut down all of the nuclear power plants.

Germany has eaten too much soy

Their primer minister was (and still is) literally on Putin's payroll. What do you think that was for?

No less shocking is US blowing up the pipeline bringing cheap energy to Germany

The timing was a bit unfortunate for that 😄 Generally I'm in favour of that decision
