You don't need government for money. If you examine history, this will be clear. Gold emerged as money because of its properties, and then monarchs stamped their faces on coins made of gold.
Governments have only undermined money ever since, first by reducing the gold content of their coins, and in recent decades by backing it with nothing but the assumption of economic growth and the promise of violence.
Nio. Gold is not usable for day to day and small ammouts. 1gram is like 100 USD. Would you carry gold filings? And what if the unit you have is not enough? You can't just split it. If you split and is not the perfect ammout not you can't join it back again. Also gold has different levels of purity. You can't test it all
this stupid argument always, "gold is not usable for day to day use" - thats why gold smiths were giving out receipts, but they quickly found out they can give out more receipts than actual gold was stored in their vaults.
