I never really knew what Guy Fawkes Day was until I just looked it up. So my options are to celebrate either the fact that the king survived an assassination plot or that one group of religious lunatics wanted to murder another group of religious lunatics and install their person into power.

hard pass on both.

the mask is alright though

Cucked ass English holiday or something.

They should observe the beheading of Charles I and make poems about that shit instead, way more metal.

V for Vendetta (the graphic novel, not the movie) is where it’s at.

Which is funny because there’s a fun through-line (Christian sectarianism) of the Stuart Dynasty, from Guy Fawkes’ failed plot on King James to the English Civil War and Cromwell.

The problem with celebrating Charles 1 is that the period of time afterwards was so bad that we ended up with Charles 2. We are now in the time of Charles 3 and his neck is starting to look tempting again...

Hard to look at this today except through the cultural lens of V for Vendetta (2005), and how that mask subsequently became a cultural signifier for.... lots of stuff

Including the early Bitcoin days .. C.f. BTC magazine #1 https://store.bitcoinmagazine.com/products/bitcoin-magazine-issue-1-may-2012

word.

The ass ass nation attempt was hilariously inept. They told all the catholic members of parliament not to go to work that day, so those Parliament people raised the alarm and defeated their own side.

You just looked it up? Lol are you five?

I'll be 5 next month

Celebrate the comic, 🥳

Everybody likes a rebel until they see what the rebel's goals are.

Well, Fawkes and his lot weren't exactly selfless freedom fighters risking their lives for the people of England, more like Carholic hardliners 😅

V for Vendetta is pretty ballers though.
