-THE BORACAY ISLAND LIFE-

Hamadan, known in antiquity as Ecbatana, is considered one of the oldest continuously inhabited cities in the world.

Founded by the Medes around the 7th century BCE, it became the capital of their powerful empire.

Ancient Greek historians like Herodotus described Ecbatana as a city of immense wealth, surrounded by seven concentric walls.

After the fall of the Median Empire, Hamadan served as a key administrative center for the Achaemenid kings of Persia.

Alexander the Great captured the city in 330 BCE, marking the end of Achaemenid rule and the start of Hellenistic influence.

During the Parthian and Sassanian eras, Hamadan remained an important hub of trade, governance, and military strategy.

With the arrival of Islam in the 7th century CE, Hamadan flourished as a cultural and religious center.

The city is famously the burial place of the great philosopher Avicenna (Ibn Sina) and the biblical figure Esther, adding to its spiritual significance.

Throughout history, Hamadan has endured invasions by Mongols, Timurids, and other powers, yet it always rebuilt and maintained its prominence.

Today, Hamadan stands as a living museum of Iranian heritage, blending ancient ruins with Islamic architecture and modern urban life.
