Nextcloud is a much more private way to backup your phone media.
I cringe thinking people stream all their private pictures to Google or apple clouds 😬😬

How do you do a secondary backup? If your house burns down the hard drive would go with it and lose all pictures. Love the idea though just haven’t figured out a good way to back up.
Pair it with duplicati for encrypted compressed backups and set those to push to the cloud
I use veracrypt to encrypt and push to a cloud provider, which is not one of the big names
You need a second server in a second and distant location. Like a vacation house, at family or friend. You can even backup to each other, preferably encryted locally. Don't forget to have a backup of thr encryption key outside your house too, or a way to recover it in case of disaster.
Seems like the best approach in order to not use a hosted cloud service. I’ll explore this a bit more, thank you!

I been using my embassy OS with self-hosted jellyfin service for viewing and sharing access to family photos/videos 👍
Nexcloud is great, the normies will never adopt it. Sometimes troubleshooting is a pain
