Stoked to dig into this!

I fucking love making compost. I feel like a wizard creating alchemy. Biochar and a carcass in the middle. Heaps of nettles, sticky weed, comfrey and seaweed. I havent tried a proper Johnson-Su yet. Have you ever messed with Biodynamic preps, Jack?

I don’t really plan to play with biodynamics. It seems like a set of stories that lead to solid practices. Bury soil in a horn dig up when the sun is right and such.

It works because your inoculating the soil with preserved microbes. The sun’s location is just a calendar.

I guess when there’s a scientific explanation I prefer it to myth and legends.

Fair enough. You're right aerating water with vortexes makes scientific sense but I also like the idea that the farmer imbues his intention into the compost preps too. Best time to build a heap: when its pouring with rain in the autumn. Cheers Jack, I love your podcast.

Biodynamics was created by a scientist. It is scientific. It’s just that it involves parts of reality that most people are not ready to directly perceive. Just like if you tried to explain to people about microbes before the microscope, you don’t make much progress trying to explain the principles in biodynamic farming. I’d be producing a lot more from my garden building compost piles than spending my effort learning to understand this esoteric stuff, but I think I’ll be making practical use of it in the not too distant future.
