The birth rate statistics itself doesn't explain the problem and misleads IMO.

People don't get married and do families as before, less families, less babies. The decline isn't caused by the suddenly decrease of n of childrens per family, but the number of new families itself.

The fact that individuals are not hopeful about their future possibilities is a huge contributing factor to this.
