Don't just go annually automatically. I go every five years and see a very small change - last time i still had better than 20 20 vision with my old glasses on. But they used the term "annual checkup" to insinuate i need to go yearly.

Also there is a lot of monopolization in that space. Luxottica owns lens crafters, they own all the frames manufacturers, everything.
