If you need stable node software, I recommend start9 (https://start9.com). If you have an old laptop, buy more memory (I have 2 TB NVMe) and install EmbassyOS (https://github.com/Start9Labs/embassy-os). And give donations start9.

Overall, I recommend Start9.

I installed Start9 on a machine back in December. It's fantastic. I would recommend it for beginners too.

I just got a raspberry pi and been going back and forth between umbrel and start9. I’m a noob when it comes to this stuff. I thought umbrel would be more plug and play sort of thing but I’m starting to think that start9 would be better for me as I get more hands on learning.

they're both really, really good. i like them both for different reasons. if i were to go with a node platform, i'd go with start9.

I used MyNode, Raspiblitz, Umbrel on Raspberry Pi 4, Raspberry Pi is ok for Bitcoin max LN but if you install something more then problems may start. I bought this computer:

Mini PC HP 800 G2 Tiny i7 16GB

Even the fan does not work loudly when I turn on several applications.

Here you have a comparison of processor power compared to the Raspberry Pi:

There's nothing to even compare here. If you want to seriously have a node, buy some decent equipment. As for learning, the Raspberry Pi will do.

I have this equipment with embassyos installed, and I invested in a UPS. This configuration allowed me to run the node from December without any surprises.
