Ended my water fast at day 4 of 10. ✅

What happened?

I went into full ketosis early, two days ago. Fasters tongue emerged, hunger stopped, I felt serene, low blood pressure. Eyes no longer itched and body rash from autoimmune stopped.

I was able to achieve 2 days of autophagy and in those two days was able to effectively give myself natural stem cell therapy. That was the goal.

Why end the fast early?

I planned on 7 full day of stem cell therapy to help heal my gut before starting #carnivore. Every day in the evening I measure whether I have enough fuel and if I have pure hunger or not.

Last night I got a deep chill, laid in front of the fire with a heavy sweatshirt and a alpaca beanie. With an emanating chill, I grabbed on my lower back, where my body likes to hold the last of it's fuel reserves, and realized I had less than 1/2 a handful there (est 9% total body fat).

Then I did a test for true hunger. I imagined a food that I hated: in this case grapefruit juice, velvety mango, and canned spinach. Every day prior, I thought of them and it was not desirable. In this moment, I did the same thing and a deep desire resonated from my belly. Low body fat + true hunger = fast is over.

How did I refeed?

I simmered a pound of bison ground in remineralized and salted water and then sipped the stock (3 big cups) with manuka honey. That with a bit of animal fructose turn my system back on. Then I slowly consumed the ground bison with added beef tallow. Afterwords I had a handful blackberries.

At this point I needed to take my hoodie and heavy socks off. Blood pressure was back. I felt energy. I was out of full ketosis. Be careful not to overdo it on refeeding; take it slow.

Why did I fast with low body fat?

This is the first time I've gone for a prolonged fast when I could already see my abs and had been eating cleanly leading up to it; the purpose was healing my gut, not correcting for metabolic syndrome.

I was an avid coffee drinker and for some reason started getting a full body rash that only intensified to the point that I couldn't sleep. I cut periodic alcohol, coffee, then caffeine, then chocolate, then diary. I had already previously eliminated seed oils, glyphosate, processed foods, legumes. My story is pretty similar to Dr. Paul Saladino (The Carnivore Code): healthy diet with a hard to account for autoimmune disorder.

I chose to believe that the remaining vegetables (hot pepper, spinach, broccolini, olive oil, tomato) and perhaps even dairy and eggs and overuse of probiotics (kombucha) and potentially even herbal tea were the triggers. The underlying root cause must be compromised gut health (permeability).

The regime I chose to address this was giving my gut a break with a fast and then using the carnivore diet as an elimination protocol to rid myself of triggers and resolve the autoimmune disorder.

I'll be using Dr. Judy's carnivore regime with added honey and berries (which I know I cantolerated), and then slowly adding back foods like eggs, raw diary (milk, kefir, cheese, butter) and eventually even potatoes, rice, and few Japanese staples (fermented soy beans in the form of miso, natto, and soy sauce).

Thanks for joining me on this fast. I hope you've gained some insights that could help you and your loved ones.

I was having some gut problems as well and was drinking kombucha every day thinking it would help.

It turned out that cutting out Tea (I don’t drink coffee), Kombucha, and alcohol for a few weeks made a huge difference.

We've been inculcated so comprehensively that plant prebiotics are essential and herbal tea could only ever be beneficial.

I also took mushroom tincture and black seed oil and supplements daily (circumin, zinc, histamine enzyme, plant nutrients). Stopped them all and won't be returning.

I *might* take digestive enzymes, cow bile, and a stomach acid supplement to help my body adapt to an 80%+ meat diet.

Do you work out at all when fasting?

Not this go round since I was focusing on healing my gut as opposed to overcoming metabolic syndrome.

That's interesting. I am about to do a 48 hr bone broth fast (again). Felt amazing after first.

When I did 20 days years ago, it was transformative. I could never grow a beard before, never shaved, always had a little stubble. After the fast I had a mountain man beard shoot out of my face.

Fascinating read. Zapped 🫡

Knowing when to stop is the key on a long term. Glad to hear you were aware enough to stop early instead of going for the predetermined days.

If I was at 25+% body fat instead of sub 15% I could have powered through. Done 20 days before.

Dude I can relate. I enjoy experimenting with my body. I've tried so many things without any relief from psoriasis. It's led me down the oxalate rabbit hole. Still trying to find my way. Some of those plants you listed are extremely high in oxalate (spinach, potato, tomato).

The problem is that you are on fire.

Whatcha mean?
