Such big news in the UK, it annoys me. I’ve no affiliation with any of the political parties but the witch hunt against her says so much about the British psyche and politics in general.
Fuck me, so what, she made a mistake or whatever, get over it. She’ll end up paying the tax she owes.
Meanwhile thousands of Ukrainian children are abducted and atrocities continue in the Middle East.
The problem with politicians is that they are not paid enough, the big brains are all in the city earning 10x more.
Originally in the UK, the birthplace of modern democracy, the “wig” party were unpaid aristocrats running the country unpaid for egalitarian reasons.
The lower classes didn’t like this, so the birth of the trade unions allowed early left wing politicians to be funded.
Eventually rules were passed that allowed the paying of politicians, so social class was no longer a barrier.
Politicians are paid reasonably well compared to the average worker, but if you are interested in money, then business offers far greater financial reward.
So now we are run by a mixture of average people seeking power and successful business people who have made their money and are seeking other challenges.
The problem for wealthy politicians is that business is an autocracy, politics is a democracy.
Politicians main job is keeping their job, their second job is being seen to do a job and their third job is doing something worthwhile.
I’m not sure paying more would do much, because the public purse can never match the potential rewards of private industry.
Very interesting Mike. And your summary of their main, second and third jobs also applies to most people in the corporate world I would say. The number of pen-pushing middle-management imbeciles that earn more than politicians is embarrassing. I still think a hefty pay rise is in order for them to improve the quality of MPs but the people would never allow it.
Many people share your opinion about a pay rise. I am undecided.
The WEF penetrating cabinets with their "young global leaders" is part of the problem. They get handsomely rewarded for their work. Failing upwards is one of the perks.
Be nice, she was shocked and devastate by this.
