Yeah, "Monetary activity will out compete spam for block space." always seemed like a bit of hopium to me.

In an ideal world, node software would be so diversified that the state of spam filters wouldn't have a de facto set of 'stewards'. Fortunately, it doesn't seem that the state of spam filters is yet an existential threat. To me, the fight ought to be to move in the direction of a more ideal state of node software diversification... in order to render the fight re:spam filters moot before it becomes necessary.
