It's seeming more likely that what got our birds last was raccoons and not coyotes as the neighbors got hit too but saw the coons. Still keeping the traps set up the hill for a while. As the boys and I loaded rocks into the trailer I found a pair of blue tailed skinks which went back to the bushes. We got the rocks all moved to the wall and had to push the birds back onto the farm.

In the evening J was riding his bike and saw a hen with 5 fresh chicks roaming around by the driveway. We went out and after a bit of work managed to get them and her and into the brooder hut where they can be safe.
