Agree on most parts! 💜 I just don't get the obsession with guns in the USA

Guns are equalizers.
Put a person who is small & weak, or in some way phhsically handicapped, in a ring with a 200+lb attacker & what are the odds of the weaker person defending themselves?
Now repeat the scenario, but give the weaker person a gun & an hour or two worth of training. What happens to the odds?
Anyone who genuinely cares about the weak & vulnerable, or about minorities of any sort, must necessarily support private gun ownership. To fail to do so is just irrational & ignorant.
Many of the disarmed countires have higher rates of death per capita from shootings than the US does & if you removed from US stats the cities where people are also legally disarmed, the US would be the safest place on earth.
Every holocaust or democide or massacre of one kind or another is generally preceded by a disarming of the soon to be victims. An unarmed population is one that is destined for either slavery or eradication.
The problem with "compassionate" people is that they tend to prefer ideas that feel nice over things that actually work.
Are we in a ring ? Do you feel the need to defend yourself by yourself?
Are you really so naive that you believe people don't ever prey on others?
Cops are great when you need someone to show up 30mins after any emergency & take notes. And the people who choose to become cops are also 3 times as likely to abuse their spouses. Do you really want a monopoly govt agency that is funded by theft, that can legally steal from you, & can shoot your pets, to also be able to legally disarm you completely? Do you just like being ruled by an unaccounbtable gang? Because it seems like that's what you're asking for.
Do things tend to get better or worse when power disparities grow? Guns reduce power disparities. They are equalizers. Poor people & rich people & people with political power tend to suffer from bullet wounds quite similarly. "An armed society is a polite society" because people understand the dangers of escalation & conflict. But people who aim to CREATE conflict or to take advantage if others, always want their victims disarmed. Do you want to help people take advantage of others? Do you want to make it impossible for vulnerable people to protect themselves? Do you want the vulnerable dependent on you or others so that you can take advantage of them?
It’s pretty simple. Bad people will always have guns, so why can’t good people have guns?

So it’s a jungle out there, reading you feels like the whole system is broken, and that there is no other way to have justice. Arming everyone is not the solution for me, because many innocent people are dying in the way of that.
Innocent people are dying because good people are disarmed & bad people don't obey gun laws. People like you who advocate gun control policies are improving life for ciminals at the expense of the innocent.
