I always wonder why our keyboards have the letters strategically placed in an odd order.

First, how did they come up with that?

Second, now TVs are using alphabetical order keyboards.

Third, there are people who don’t know the alphabet.

Wait till you hear about the QWERTY vs DVORAK discussion

This is a deep deep rabbit hole among programmers 😂

The qwerty keyboard was designed to keep the original typewriters from jamming, not for human usability.

There have been MANY better designs but, so far, none has gotten mainstream adoption.

What nostr:npub1zuuajd7u3sx8xu92yav9jwxpr839cs0kc3q6t56vd5u9q033xmhsk6c2uc said mostly. Basically the positioning was to slow you down a bit but also put letters commonly used together in a position to avoid jamming the hammer things. Check out Dvorak keyboard for another example that is supposedly more efficient.

I’ve learned Dvorak, colemak, and workman over the years. None of them stuck long term but they are absolutely easier on your hands and more efficient.

Took me 3 weeks to get up to speed with DVORAK and I never looked back. Love it! (Can still bang out on QWERTY too when necessary)
