Honestly my problem with nostr is the lack of algorithm. My timeline is basically just full 3 accounts that post every few hours. If somebody i follow posted on the weekend or even a few hours before I wish it would see it too.

You are the algorithm, so spend some time curating who you follow, mix in following some hashtags, #grownostr, #foodstr search for a few that interest you.
Bounce around to a few different clients , as well.
Join a paid relay or two, short on SATs for that, post an invoice (that's how we did it in the early days) and someone just might pay it for you.
Be the change you want to see, on nostr. Post things with hashtags, you like.

There won’t be an algorithm the way you are familiar with, but there will be more discovery tools in the future. Maybe you just aren’t following enough variety of accounts. I guess the question is, are you happier being in control here, or are you okay with freely giving all your activity to a company so it can sell it to advertisers?
I guess what he describes is more like a filter option for his home feed. For example there could be a "only show Favourites" function for accounts whose Notes you don't want to miss.
Or apps could go with primal's approach and list the notes from your home feed with the highest zap amount or reactions within the last X hours.
Exactly I don't want a server side filter. It would be cool if I can just have more control over what I request in home client side.
Sample:
Servers give me notes that got >10 zaps in the 24h. Push me highly commented notes etc.
And the other way around. Show me a maximum of 5 posts from today from one person in home.
