can someone explain the appeal of writing in medium.com?

seriously; I don't get writing on a place that's going to paywall your content and give you nothing in return

if you write for medium for free, would you mind cleaning the kitchen while you're at it?

Medium article tend to rank better and faster in the short term so you can generate leads or sales faster. Plus I think you have a chance of ranking within medium itself - bringing immediate readership. But in the long term it’s not a good deal. Better to own the content.

Also, you can write on your domain now and cross post to medium with canonical to original so there’s no harm in posting there.

100% keep a copy of content in nostr relay db - repost/broadcast to relay servers in future - free, paid(pay for storage sure), private - more sustainable decentralized possible model in future.

we all pay our pc/mobile, isp, so will for relays - still retain freespeech not controlled by bigtech extracting profits

Makes zero sense

It’s like the guy that works for someone for free on the hopes that he will give you exposure.

I was under the impression they do actually pay writers based on clicks, but I could be wrong about that. When I was looking for a blogging platform recently, the main selling point for Medium seemed to be a built in audience of people who had already paid the subscription fee and were looking for content.

Try writing a blog on nostr using nip23 with habla.news , flycat.club or blogstack.io I started cross posting on substack to get subscribers, but flycat gives me rss now as well.

I don't recall having hit a paywall on medium ever before. Not saying it hasn't happened.

Anytime I hit a paywall anywhere, I just use https://12ft.io to skirt the paywall. Usually it works. Not always, but usually it does.

Medium is the reason I keep an incognito window perpetually open.

free accounts in medium gets removed for storing few kilobytes wtf

The little clap widget thing is fun.

Lol 😆 🤣 😂 😹

Agree with the sentiment - I put stuff there almost by default. No one reads it - I once got more claps than views on an article 😆

Might be a dumb question but can you suggest a non techie option to post content in a similar way, just text, pictures and the odd embedded link? I’m happy to pay for somewhere to host as a regular service via lightning etc
