Does anyone know why Brave Search and Duck Duck Go intercept clicks and redirect??

When you hover and inspect the page they show a proper href link, but the page use JS to intercept the click and redirects you to a Brave/DDG url before redirecting you to the target domain. I only found this out because I keep getting http errors from Brave or DDG when I click on literally any result.

If I "open link" from the alt menu I can forcibly navigate.

I wanted to ask before I judge how super sleezy this is.
