channel closes can take some time to clear

the channels always close and some of the balance goes to one side and the other, to the other side

there is no "nope, channel gone" situation, the channel is literally on chain and either side publish it, it's closed, and the coins go to the addresses that set them up

ecash it entirely depends on the mint, this was the whole reason why we have lightning, because it's better than ecash

That I hope is the situation. I am having a weird one where the app auto-crashes upon login. I reinstalled it onto another computer, but I have no indication of whether the channel was closed, or funds are gone.

the funds just aren't gone if you have the key to the channels (seed key) it's just a regular bitcoin wallet, and each channel is based on one of the keys from it

it can sometimes take time for the other side to recognise a problem, and equally, sometimes the other side can think there is a problem and publish the state and force close on you

i don't know exactly what the issue is with your situation but you can use that same seed on another lightning node and gain access to the state of the channels that way

I lost around 60k+/- a few k sats when I updated and alby and channel closed. Seeded back no sats. Pretty sure I screwed up something but still going to try and get them back.

Hmm, try do a full re-scan of the wallet from Alby Hub settings -> Debug Tools -> Clear Routing Data -> ALL.

If that doesn't work, visit us at support.getalby.com

Thanks!

there is one, where both nodes die

SCBs only tell the other node to force close

otherwise the channel is dead but can be recovered with cooperation
