To make sure that your posts don't disappear from relays, your images don't disappear from blossom servers, etc. you need to run your own instances of these (something like haven) - which is basically AT Protocol PDS or Pubky Homeserver

you can just pay one or two cheap relay storage providers

on bluesky you're forced to use only one I believe?

Thats just another middlemen who can block you even if you pay or they can just dissappear

No. Of course you can host your PDS, it's really the same as haven
