Alright, today is tape mastering day. I say that like I know what I'm doing 🤣

I just try to get the levels mainly at 0 to 3db going to the tape. I EQ my voice a bit on the high end going in, I think it has a lot of bass already.

Plus, type 2 tape I think has decent bass response.

This time I'm going digital to a master type 2 tape and will duplicate from the tape.

I will also make the digital podcast a recording of the tape playback. I just have to test to make sure the audio-data experiments still work.

Nice. I've got am mkiii, very similar to the ii. Do you use the dbx nr at all?

For this, I'm keeping it off because I want that sweet, sweet, tape hiss to make it in the final recording.

But if you make a recording for yourself to play back on your own gear, it is pretty amazing at cleaning up the hiss. I think it does so at slightly more compression however, so you have to expirement a bit.

Cool, yeah I get that. I've always had a soft spot for the dbx compression effect when recording loud things like drums and amped guitars... you lose a bit of high end but get a nice, beefy boost in the mid-low range frequencies in return.

Would love to get a copy of this somehow when it's done!

Yeah I'm still learning the ins and outs. I'm trying to go more analog-first but I'm still mainly going digital to analog.

I'm giving myself more time before the next issue so maybe I can get there.
