not the military bases, the promotion of socialism and social discord, the debasement of currency to rob the people of the product of their labor and diminish their viability

yeah, nah, that's a fable... he just symbolises the bankers and their fraud - that whole story is literally about money... the slippers were silver, the road is gold bricks, the emerald city is the greenback, and the companions all represent some part of the politics of the time
