Yeah, it is like throwing 80 years of diplomacy into the bin. And I'm not sure if anyone liked the stability of the cold war... Eternal war is a 1984 concept. Anyway being used as a currency does feel pretty weird.

During the cold war you had world divided into spheres of influence/interest, but there was a big tension between the superpowers that is why it called cold war.
Eternal or Perpetual War is concept form Orwell's 1984 and is used as one of the way how to keep people obedient.
US was spending a lot resources the past 80 years to build this world and now they are just throwing it all away to appease Russia and peel it away from China.

US started the conflict in Ukraine by overthrowing their previous president who was in favor of peace with Russia and didn’t want to join NATO.
So why didn't the Ukrainian people welcomed the Russian troops as liberators? If that happened the war would be over in 3 days.

Russia started the war with Ukraine by launching an illegal invasion of a sovereign nation as part of his longtime goal of seizing control of all the former Soviet states and reconstituting a new Soviet empire. That's been his desire since Gorbachav shook hands with Ronald Reagan. And now Trump is a helping him achieve his goal.
