You can make your own vanilla extract by soaking vanilla beans in a liquor of your choice.

These are in some Four Roses whiskey.

Takes about 6 weeks minimum to infuse. This bottle has been going since September last year.

You can also just refill over the same beans once it runs low.

I've done it with vodka but didn't know you could make it with other liquor.

It works well with whiskey. Doesn’t impart a strong whiskey flavor. Probably couldn’t tell unless someone told you it’s in there.

I am using 90-proof rum each jar is different: dandelion, oregano, sage, and yarrow. Just hitting the 7th week

Can you use the liquor-based extract in anything?

Yeah! Anything that calls for vanilla extract.

Could probably put it into cocktails. I tried it straight, not as tasty as it smells.
