No, the Enlightenment folks did that--and they did it by explicitly rejecting Luther's teaching on total depravity. Check out the work of John Witte, Jr. and his Emory Studies in Law and Religion. The Reformers argued for natural law/rights 200 years before the Enlightenment.
Common trope from the likes of Brad S. Gregory, but it's not true. More counter-reformation propaganda. Fact remains that Augustinus Totum Nostrus Est...Papacy anathematized themselves with Trent (see Paul's Epistle to the Galatians).
I recently came across this: Michael Horton reviews Brad Gregory's [Unintended Reformation](https://www.thegospelcoalition.org/reviews/the-unintended-reformation/) -- it's worth a look for the opposing view (which I take).
