Shill me a Linux laptop comparable to a Mac M4.

Processor must be ARM or otherwise as silent as a Mac. Should not feel cheap, especially not keyboard and trackpad.

Willing to pay 50% more than an M4 for comparable performance and battery life.

Pretty sure it does not exist, but let's give this a try.

Not system76 lemur

Apple hardware is unmatched 👏

System76 is pretty good, never used a mac so cant compare

Framework is as good as it gets in my experience, but not a single one will march the thermals of a Mac. It's not to be found.

I like System76, especially the OS.

I know you mean linux on bare metal M series. Hope you get suggestions here.

In case not, how about linux in a VM on M series hardware? I'd buy something like that I think.

I would also like to know.

This may be a notebook I would settle for but battery and silence under load are not comparable https://hothardware.com/reviews/hp-zbook-ultra-g1a-128gb-review

You could try framework. Runs Linux flawlessly and is modular so can upgrade parts.

frame.work

Doesn’t yet exist. Not enough market for it.

If you want freedom hardware - frame.work.

If you want the performance, the M series are amazing, even with the Linux drivers still not being completely optimized. Most of the work that’s left, as I understand it, is the lower hanging fruit. Battery life will soon match OSX.

But you know this.

You can't. Either you accept less powerful hardware and more noise or you accept macos. ARM is really in its infancy on non-apple laptops. It's what you get when software and hardware are completely separated.

Mac M2 w/ https://asahilinux.org/ ? Has anyone tried asahi? #asknostr

I have. It's excellent but can't connect to an external display and had other hardware issues.

Super easy to setup. Works fine on the laptop itself. I did have issues with my external monitor over HDMI (USB-C unsupported).

Lol.

Just get an M4 Air with max ram.

Trust me bro. The qualities you're looking for aren't gonna materialize just because you want them. The industry sucks. MacBook Pros are too heavy. Idk why people buy laptops to be honest.

Otherwise pick up some used shit that makes up for all of the price problems.

Freedom has a price. So no comparable hardware. Best match is Lenovo X1 or Dell XPS13. Great machines for Linux

System 76 all day every day

1/2 the price

10x the performance
