I do think some way to validate a person's identity needs to exist if we are going to have a govt at all, & one of the primary reasons it would make sense to do so is to be able to validate different forms of engagement with govt programs & decision making schemes like voting.

But without a govt, & without the need for any sort of voting, I think reputation based on some sort of voluntary key based ID system would be fine for most things.

Yea I mean obviously I prefer an anarchist solution, but for the sake of this post, we are speaking within the existence of a democratic state.
