In the old days some records companies used to buy their own records to gain visibility on the charts. If you use zaps as the metric you get the exact same scenario happening. Time is much more interesting as a metric.

for sure. as a musician myself, this concerns me. i love the idea of a soundcloud or spotify alternative built on the nostr protocol that allows audiences to connect with artists and pay them directly in sats for their work. what i do NOT want to see us some sort of ā€œtrendingā€ bullshit where the highest zapped artists/producers constantly show in the feeds while small-time hobbyists who make very good inspiring tunes get stuck somewhere in the ether. i’m trying to build a solution that works this way but unfortunately i’m dumb. so that’s a major roadblock.
