the reason religion exists

I was raised in a household where debate was common and sources questioned. Frequently debate isn’t for convincing someone else but challenging your viewpoints and assumptions. Why do you believe what you believe? If no one in the discussion is willing to question their own viewpoint it’s just two people telling each other what side of an argument they’re on.
