Ok last note of the night.

I’m realizing I have a tough time focusing/retaining information with audio books! I do well with podcasts and reading books, but audio books are challenging for me for some reason.

Anyone else feel similarly? nostr:note1v7lp6u6neyanarpgm3dcnczm0vf0g730l2cdrsyxj04w5xhl6r0qs7a94e

Yes but largely due to the fact that I listen while doing other things.

I’d like to sit down with a pen and paper to write down my thoughts while listening. I think that would be a game changer but setting the time aside to do that is easier said than done.

Good idea, I may try that with this audiobook in particular

I'm the opposite. I have weak focusing muscles in my eyes, so reading has been a lifelong struggle for me. Audiobooks opened up the world of books to me.

same. I prefer to read over audiobooks but podcasts are okay since the person is speaking rather than reading words.

some audiobooks where the writing is more conversational aren't so bad though.

I’d say if it’s difficult it means you need to listen to more audio books.

If it's something relevant to research/teaching, I use audiobooks for a first reading to get the big picture or a re-reading to refresh my memory. It's not a substitute for close study of the written text, but a complement to it.

If I find something important to follow up on, or something that sparks a new thought, I'll stop and make a quick audio note about it in Google Keep.
