My fiancé is Sicilian American and they’re a suspicious bunch!
I would go with "Insular and protective." We don't need to be suspicious when we already know everyone's out to get us.
I love that. Once you get in with a Sicilian family, you’re with them for life. I feel closer to a number of my fiancé’s family members than my own! They really give a fuck about you.
