Jack suggested this (haven't tried yet):
i now spend 2-3 hours per day reading research papers and building something with goose that i didn't think it capable of doing. i never see a line of code, and never trapped in an IDE.
it works nearly every time, but does requires some nudging every now and then. incredible.
all open source, model independent, full autonomy. use it or fork it today: https://block.github.io/goose/

thanks, will try this one out
I personally at the moment use Copilot via VSC. Although it is not that good. Lol
(Free version of course)
There are so many options.
JetBrains also have AI extension powered by Gemini 2.5. Tabnine another extension.
I am thinking to try Cline extension.
There are also dedicated ide with AI integration: cursor and windsurf.
Prices/costs varies.
Codeium is free and full featured.
Tabnine has a free basic tier but functional.
Goose is the most powerful but you need an API key.
i got an API key for goose but it doesnt start in desktop mode
only in cli
maybe i need an extension for a better UI
Yes on Linux it is only CLI at the moment.
understand, but can an extension work as a UI ?
Oh I see what you meant. Sorry.
Possibly. But I am not sure how that would work.
You basically need a GUI, right?
The functionality is there.
yes a GUI would be great
On their Github they say it features Jetbrains integration (for working with JB IDE)--- actually they have an extension for that.
And a VSC extension!
I wanna try but my current computer is weak.
Watched some videos. CLI interface for coding is not too bad.
Claude Code seems pretty good too.
